ReSurge International Surgical Outreach Program (RISOP), funded by ReSurge International, has been working to put smiles on the faces of poor and disadvantaged children in Nepal since 2003.
The program provides services both in Kathmandu and in the periphery of Nepal through outreach camps held in six regional centers across the country. These services include the holistic management of facial clefts and burn injuries in needy children from remote and rural areas. A multidisciplinary team of approximately 50 members are involved in providing these services, some of whom are based locally and others who regularly travel from Kathmandu to the outreach camps. This team consists of plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, micro and reconstructive surgeons, speech pathologists, physiotherapists, nutritionists, dentists, dental surgeons, orthodontists and other trained medical professionals and assistants. The comprehensive services are provided to the patients free of cost.
